THE IMPORTANCE OF GRASS FED-MEAT

by Social Media Gaucho on December 07, 2022

According to the “Cost of buying cow meats” articles, the cost of a cow varies based on not only the weight of the cow, but also the cut of the meat. We believe that other elements should be taken when considering the cost of a cow that are not mentioned in this article. For example, one of the best parts of our meats’ is the fact that our animals are grass-fed, making them taste much gamier and fresher. There are also other benefits that grass-fed cows have that are explained further in the article. These benefits are what cause the higher prices for these types of meat. Therefore, we feel as though people should consider the conditions and places that cows are raised when considering the price of the meat.

Some of the health benefits linked to grass-fed beef are stated by Dr. Paul in his article titled “Grass-fed meat: is it good for you?", include:

  • Lower total fat content, more heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, more omega-6 fatty acid (linolenic acid), more antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin E
  • Reduce risk of heart disease and lower cholesterol levels
  • Reduce chances of being sick
  • Has high protein and can prevent sarcopenia: a loss of muscle mass that develops from protein deficiency over time
  • Improve exercise performance
  • Prevents Anemia

It is also more expensive and time consuming to raise grass-fed cattle due to the slow growth rates of grass compared to the fast growth rates of grains which are used to feed most cows in the U.S. They also require more space if they are grass-fed due to the high amount of grass needed to feed cows. We believe that the health benefits that grass-fed cows have, allow for their cost to be much higher than the traditional cost of cow meat. This method of raising cows makes their meat more delicious and more natural and includes no added chemicals and hormones to the cows.

The next time you consider the cost of a cow, do not only consider its weight and its cut, but also consider where it came from and how it was raised. You might be surprised when you find out the difference in taste and quality of the meat.
